Artist Statement

Journal Entry: Wed May 16, 2007, 7:12 PM
My interest in making visual art stems from research conducted on visual possibilities of language, language as art and, consequently, art as language. Seeking to articulate ideas, experiences and thoughts that cannot express in words I employ established techniques in the hope of providing the viewer with the ability to feel the heat, the cold, hunger, lust, paralysis, and more than anything love of the work. My inspirations are direct from life and from the people I encounter, but much of the substance that manifests upon my canvas and sculptures originates from a subconscious divine intervention. A mystery not completely understood yet felt with an unquenchable desire to create and to free the essence of everything that my eyes behold. I choose to use an unlimited palette of clear and vibrant color to bring the viewers attention into the power of the work. My goal is to put the viewer on a certain path when looking at my paintings and letting them wander by not resolving everything myself. My ultimate intent is to present works of art that allows the viewer the freedom to reflect on the physical, psychological, emotional and most of all spiritual self. Hoping that by being confronted by these elements, the viewer is challenged to see themselves by becoming engaged by the constructs which have formed and shaped her or him as an individual being.

Growing up in a public school system which didn't see the value or advantages of visual expression, a large part of my growth as a visual artist is due to my own personal interest in the arts, an undying quench for educating myself and the undeniable support and encouragement of my parents. I became immensely interested from an early age in providing a greater comprehension of the visual arts, making it a more integral part of life outside of the so called "art world".

I am drawn to expressing the great visual and spiritual energies which spring from a space fueled by inspiration and imagination. Vision is everything, and everything stems from within the vision. A constant and endless flow of freedom reaching out from the depths of a soul yearning to be seen and heard.
